OKLAHOMA CITY -- Superman, Scarlett O'Hara, and Cleopatra in Oklahoma City? Well, sort of. The outfits they wore, almost as famous as the actors themselves, are on display at the Oklahoma City Museum of Art this summer.
"Sketch to Screen: The Art of Hollywood Costume Design" is one of the OKCMOA's most unique exhibits to date, that's because it's not a traveling show. The idea for the show came from the museum itself.
For Jennifer Klos, associate curator at OKCMOA, the three-year process started to really take shape a full year after the planning stage.
"We began this project of acquiring pieces and acquiring loans over the past two years," Klos said. "And it really is an exciting thing when the objects do arrive and they're installed."
"A lot of these garments that we're looking at and seeing in the exhibition, you really should envision the character," she continued. "And (remember) what the character looked like on screen."
Klos has many favorites in the exhibit, which includes Charlie Chaplin's shoes and replicas of dresses from "Gone With the Wind," but admits a special affinity for the "Gladiator" display.
"SKETCH TO SCREEN, THE ART OF HOLLYWOOD COSTUME DESIGN" IS ON DISPLAY THROUGH AUGUST 15. FOR MORE INFO, CALL (405) 236-3100 OR VISIT www.okcmoa.com.
