OKLAHOMA CITY – A woman convicted of enabling child abuse in a 2005 death could now be getting a new trial.

Raye Dawn Smith was convicted of enabling child abuse in the 2005 death of Kelsey Smith Briggs.

The Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals ruled July that there is sufficient evidence that a juror may have received information about the case outside the courtroom. Defense attorneys say a juror watched media coverage of the case and checked an Internet site devoted to Kelsey.

A hearing on the request for a new trial will be held September 1.
