SAND SPRINGS, OK – Crews working to repair a sink hole on Main Street in Sand Springs discovered the need for a major emergency repair project to the street Monday.

The sink hole opened up over the weekend.

City workers tried to repair the existing main line on Monday, but discovered widespread deterioration that ran from First to Second Street. The city said the 12-inch line may be nearly 100 years old.

"The farther we looked, the worse it looked," Boswell said. The concrete pipe does not have sufficient integrity to be repaired. Therefore, we have investigated which repair method would be best and have determined pipe bursting to be the procedure of choice given all the circumstances."

The repair project is set to begin Wednesday. It's expected to take four to seven days and cost the city of Sand Springs around $80,000.
