Over 50 Arrested in Massive Drug Bust in Western Oklahoma

WEATHERFORD, Oklahoma -- Police, deputies, and narcotics agents busted a massive drug pipeline from Mexico in Weatherford Friday morning.

Before dawn, Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics agents raided homes in the Weatherford area. They were looking for over 50 suspects accused of funneling meth, marijuana and cocaine into the state.

Director of OBN Darrell Weaver said his team started investigating the operation more than a year ago. Weaver said it took that many months to get ready to serve more than 50 warrants, all on drug charges.

"Often times we see operators migrate from metro areas to small communities in Oklahoma," said the OBN Director.

Investigators started the day taking Torry Mayberry into custody. They said Mayberry is a known drug dealer who is responsible for trafficking thousands of dollars worth of drugs from Mexico and distributing them in Western Oklahoma.

Mayberry is a second-generation dealer who's been arrested on charges before. Agents also served warrants for Summer Skinner and Michelle Williams.

"If you look at 20 plus years of these people selling drugs, how many lives have been affected, more than you even wanna count," Weaver said.

The first arrest happened right across the street from a local elementary school. Authorities say that's not a surprise, because children are easy targets for drug dealers."

"I just can't believe what was going on when I looked out window this morning," said neighbor Phyllis Karlin.

The team hit house after house and made arrest after arrest until one stop where they found a baby and mom they had seen at Mayberry's house hours earlier.

"In the search warrant today a small child raised his hands as if knowing what to do in search warrant," Weaver said.

Investigators say they want to break what they see as a type of generational curse and it starts with long-term investigations like this one. They hope they can change the drug dealing and using one community at a time.

"We're after you. You either leave our state or go to jail or just get out. We're after you," said the OBN director.

OBN Spokesman Mark Woodward said 40 arrest warrants were served in Weatherford and 13 in Lawton. As of 1:30 p.m. Friday afternoon, a total of 28 defendants had been booked into the Custer County Jail. Those arrested will face a variety of charges including Distribution of Controlled Dangerous Substances.

"I applaud all the agencies involved in removing significant drug offenders from our streets, thus making Oklahoma safer. We must have great resolve in our pursuit of individuals who want to destroy our state. We must continue to press for the good," stated Weaver in a press release.

Agencies assisting with the investigation included the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics, Weatherford Police Department, District 2 Drug Task Force, Thomas Police Department, Custer County Sheriff's Department, Roger Mills Sheriff's Department, and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
