EDMOND, Oklahoma -- Oklahoma City police said a man died after he was maced and tasered by two Oklahoma City police officers. According to police, the officers were responding to a domestic dispute between Gary Grossenbacher and a woman near 15th Street and N. Santa Fe Avenue.
When they arrived Master Sergeant Gary Knight said "the man would not comply and an altercation ensued." At some point during the altercation with officers, Knight said the man was both tasered and maced.
"A taser provides and electrical charge to somebody. It gives them a shock that is designed to help get them under control," Knight said.
Knight said shortly after that, the man became unresponsive.
"Paramedics who were already on scene transported him to an area hospital where he was finally pronounced dead," Knight said.
Oklahoma City police aren't sure what lead to the domestic dispute, but neighbors said Grossenbacher was fighting with his wife Robin. Other neighbors said the couple had been together for years and lived together in their Edmond home for the past 14 years.
Department policy gives Oklahoma City police officers 48 hours before they can be interviewed.
In light of the incident, both officers have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an internal investigation.
The officers have been identified as second year Officer Bryan Jones and first year Officer Joshua Norton.
The medical examiner's office will determine an exact cause of death.
