City of Sand Springs Seeks Funding For Proposed Park Road Trail

SAND SPRINGS, OKLAHOMA -- The Sand Springs City Council has approved submitting an application for a Transportation Enhancement Program grant from the Oklahoma Department of Transportation to build a 10-foot wide walking and bicycle trail on the north side of Park Road between downtown Sand Springs and 81st W Avenue.

The 1.01-mile long trail would connect sidewalk improvements in the downtown area at Broadway and Fourth Street with the existing Sand Springs Lake Trail and the KATY Trail.

"This connection will provide a vital link in our city's trail system and will provide a safe separation for pedestrians and bicyclists from the vehicular traffic along Park Road," said Vernon Smith with the City's Public Works Department.

According to a news release from the city of Sand Springs, the trail would link the downtown area and nearby schools to the west with several locations to the east – including the Sand Springs Home Widows Colonies, Sand Springs Lake Park, the Early Childhood Education Center, and the Tulsa Transit bus route at 81st West Avenue & Charles Page Boulevard. The trail system would also connect with the Katy Trail to downtown Tulsa and the River Parks trail system.

The project's estimated cost for design and construction is $800,000. For the project to go forward, 75% of the cost would be provided by ODOT.
