Chief Mark Sipe Appointed New Tulsa Fire Marshal

TULSA, OKLAHOMA -- The City of Tulsa has a new fire marshal: Mark Sipe, a 20-year veteran of the Tulsa Fire Department.

Sipe will oversee fire investigations and prosecute arson cases, Mayor Dewey Bartlett announced Wednesday.

Sipe, the current District Chief in Emergency Operations for the TFD, will also responsible for  regulation of hazardous materials and fire prevention programs for the City.

"We're glad to have Chief Sipe step up to this critical position with the Fire Department," Fire Chief Allen LaCroix said. "Mark understands the importance of balancing code requirements with the needs of businesses and growing our community – a necessity as Fire Marshal."

Some of Sipe's duties will include investigating fires and prosecuting arson, enforcing fire protection ordinances, and developing programs for fire safety, public fire education, arson suppression and hazardous materials.

Sipe graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1984 and joined the Tulsa Fire Department in January of 1987. Sipe is a member of the Oklahoma Task Force 1 - Urban Search and Rescue Team and has also completed two years of the Executive Fire Officer program at the National Fire Academy in Emittsburg, Maryland.
