Green Country Halloween Events

TULSA, Oklahoma -- Several events around Green Country will keep the ghosts and goblins happy this Halloween.

The Tulsa Zoo's annual HallowZOOeen continues through Halloween night. The Tulsa County Sheriff's Office will be out dressed in Wizard of Oz costumes to entertain the children, and of course there will be plenty of candy to go around.

Crossroads Fellowship church in Bixby is holding a free trick-or-treat alternative on Halloween night. The "Trunk or Treat' event will start at 5:30 p.m. and go to 7:30 p.m. You are asked to bring a gently used winter coat to benefit the clothing center at the Bixby Outreach Center.

Another free trick-or-treat alternative will be held at the Spirit Center Halloween night. There will be over 60 carnival type game/candy booths and a concert to follow. The event kicks off at 4 p.m. and goes to 9 p.m. 

Sunday will be the last night to visit the spookiest place in Tulsa. Haunted Manor--at 5681 S. Mingo Rd—offers 9 scary attractions, including Cirque De Terror and Fearsome Forest.

While your 're out enjoying all these events or trick-or-treating with your kids, the Tulsa Police would like to remind people of the lurking dangers of Halloween and offer the following safety tips:

• Children should trick-or-treat with an adult
• Trick-or-treat in areas that are well lit
• Cross streets at corners, using traffic signals and crosswalks where available
• Look left, right and left again when crossing
• Walk on sidewalks or paths; if there is no sidewalk, walk facing traffic as far to the left as possible
• Wear light-colored costumes decorated with reflective tape or stickers
• Carry a flashlight or glow stick to increase visibility to drivers
• Only eat treats and candy that are properly wrapped in their original packaging after being checked by an adult
• It's also a good idea to carry a cell phone while trick-or-treating in case of an emergency.
•When possible trick-or-treat in groups

It is also important that drivers do their part to keep trick-or-treaters safe.

• Be alert in residential neighborhoods
• Drive more slowly and anticipate heavy pedestrian traffic
• Remember that costumes can limit children's visibility and they may not be able to see a moving vehicle
• Enter and exit driveways slowly and carefully
