TULSA, Oklahoma -- A Tulsa man is this year's FBI's citizen of the year.

Mark Elam was chosen for him humanitarian efforts to educated Oklahomans about the very real problem of human trafficking that's going on in Oklahoma and all over the country.

Mark is the head of an organization called Oklahomans Against Trafficking Humans. He has personally helped many victims of trafficking and gives free seminars to police officers, social workers and church groups about this growing problem.

"Really we're trying to bring awareness to that and help everybody learn what to look for and what are the indicators that you might recognize, whether in the ethnic restaurant, in a hotel or a nail salon or even in agriculture work wherever you might identify these victims and who you can call to get help," he said.

News On 6 decided to take an in depth look at human trafficking, going on right here in our own backyard.

News On 6 crime reporter Lori Fullbright took one of Mark's eight-hour trafficking courses recently and said she was shocked by what she learned. She interviewed two girls who were trafficked right here in Green Country.
