OKLAHOMA CITY – One person died in a plane crash on the west side of Lake Overholser Wednesday night. Emergency officials said the plane went down near N.W. 10th Street and Mustang Road about one mile from the John Kilpatrick Turnpike.
According to the FAA, the pilot was killed. No other passengers were on board. Authorities are not releasing the pilot's identity, but said the plane was registered out of Fort Worth.
Witnesses called the fire department to report seeing flames and the plane going down at about 9:30 p.m.
Fire crews said the plane scattered in pieces across a field. The crash started a few minor brush fires, but firefighters were able to get them put out quickly.
Flight records show the plane was a Beechcraft Bonanza A-36 single-engine plane bound from Lawton to Wiley Post Airport.
The plane went down about five miles from Wiley Post Airport.
Part of the plane landed on railroad tracks in the area. The tracks were shut down while crews cleared the wreckage.
Officials with the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the cause of the crash.
N.W. 10 Street between Mustang and Sarah roads will be closed while investigators are on the scene.
