TULSA, Oklahoma -- A fire at a Tulsa home Thursday afternoon would have been much worse if it weren't for alert neighbors, the Tulsa Fire Department said.

Firefighters were called to the home at 17th and Olympia about 2:30 p.m.

Tim Smallwood, Public Information Officer with the Tulsa Fire Department, said firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the attic.  Firefighters were able to contain the flames to the attic.

Smallwood said a neighbor across the street called the fire department after hearing the smoke alarms go off at the home.

"Thank goodness a neighbor was home and was able to hear it and call this in before it got too bad," Tim Smallwood, Public Information Officer with the Tulsa Fire Department said.

No one was injured.

Smallwood said the fire appeared to start in the kitchen and spread up to the attic.

Investigators will determine an exact cause of the fire.
