TULSA, Oklahoma -- Tulsa Firefighters spent several hours battling a fire at a warehouse just east of downtown Tulsa Tuesday night.

The fire broke out just after 8 p.m. at a vacant warehouse near Admiral and Trenton.

Firefighters arrived to find the warehouse fully involved. Heavy smoke and flames could be seen from miles away.

"Our guys did an aggressive entry fire attack," Spokesperson Tim Smallwood said.  "They couldn't get to the scene of the fire so after about six or seven minutes, they were called out so we could just try to put it out from the outside."

Smallwood said firefighters rescued a woman from the warehouse.  EMSA said the woman was transported to a Tulsa hospital in critical condition, where she later died.

He also said two others showed up at Tulsa hospitals saying they were involved in the fire. There is no word on their condition.

News On 6 also learned that a Tulsa firefighter was sent home due to heat exhaustion.

The owner of a nearby building told News On 6 reporter Ashli Sims the building was formerly Gutierrez Brothers Inc. Bananahouse, where bananas were shipped to be ripened before they were sent to the grocery store.  The man said the warehouse was sold a couple of years ago and has been vacant since.

The man said he was worried the flames would spread to his business.

"Still worried about it. Those power lines were on fire, and I was just worried they didn't fall on the building and catch the roof on fire," Robert Doss said.

Investigators have not determined a cause of the fire.
