NORMAN, Oklahoma – It was a historic day in Norman Saturday, as Landry Jones threw a record six touchdown passes and the Sooners won their record 26th consecutive home game in a 45-0 rout of Tulsa.

Jones’ day got off to a rocky start when he threw an interception on OU’s first play from scrimmage. But the defense forced a three-and-out, and Jones got into a rhythm by throwing several short swing passes. He didn’t look back from there.

Jones threw his first two touchdowns to Brandon Caleb, which were the first touchdowns of Caleb’s collegiate career. Jones went on to throw a touchdown to DeMarco Murray and three to Ryan Broyles, who is becoming Jones’ favorite target.

Jones’ six touchdown passes are the most thrown by any Sooner, and are the second most thrown by any FBS (Division 1-A) freshman.

Broyles and Caleb both finished with more than 100 receiving yards, and Jones finished with 336 passing yards. The much-maligned offensive line kept Jones protected throughout the day, and did not allow a sack.

The OU defense was equally dominant, recording its second straight shutout. The last time the Sooners accomplished that feat was in 1987, when they shut out North Carolina and Tulsa.

Tulsa had only one sustained drive, which ended with an interception by Brian Jackson in the end zone. The Golden Hurricane finished with just 269 total yards, and many of those yards came late in the game when OU was no longer playing starters. Tulsa averaged 450 yards in its first two games.

The Sooners’ 26-game home winning streak breaks their previous mark that ended in 1953. The last time they lost in Norman was on Sept. 3, 2005 when they lost their home opener to TCU 17-10.
