IRVING, Texas – Oklahoma State senior defensive end Ugo Chinasa has been named the Big 12 co-Defensive Player of the Week for his outstanding performance in the Cowboys’ 38-35 win over Texas A&M.

The senior from Richardson, Texas, did a little of everything in the nationally-televised, Thursday night win over the Aggies.

Chinasa started his night with a big play in a key situation in the second quarter. With the Aggies leading 14-0, Chinasa tipped and intercepted a pass from quarterback Jerrod Johnson that he returned 22 yards to halt the Texas A&M drive and keep the Cowboys within striking distance.

Several other game-changing plays came at the hands of Chinasa throughout the night, including a tackle for a one-yard loss on fourth down play by Texas A&M and two quarterback sacks for 15 yards in losses.

Chinasa ended the night with six tackles, including five solo stops.
He shares this week’s honor with Colorado’s B.J. Beatty, who was a key player in his team’s win over Georgia.

This week marks the third time an Oklahoma State player has received the award in the first five weeks. Kendall Hunter received the Sept. 7 offensive honor and Brandon Weeden received the Sept. 20 offensive honor.

Chinasa’s award marks the first time an OSU athlete has been named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week since Perrish Cox received the award Nov. 16, 2009, for his efforts in a win over Texas Tech.
