OU Splits Double Header after Extra-Inning Loss

The Sooners battled it out with the Tigers for 11 innings, but Missouri squeezed by with the game-ending run for the 2-1 win.

COLUMBIA, Missouri -- The Oklahoma Sooners rescheduled a three-game series in anticipation of severe weather, playing two games on Friday and the third on Sunday.

The Sooners beat the Tigers in game one, after team captain, Michael Rocha, threw 8.0 innings, allowing just one run. Rocha allowed seven hits in the 31 batters face and struck out five Tigers hitters. He remains a perfect 6-0 on the season with the 3-1 win in game one.

The Sooners scored one run in the third and their final two in the seventh. Missouri answered back in the ninth, putting up their lone run against Ryan Duke, who relieved Rocha on the mound. Despite the one run, Duke earned the save, allowing just one hit while striking out three and walking one.

Game two began much like the first. The two teams were scoreless throughout much of the game, until the Sooners putting up one run in the top of the fourth off a single by Ricky Eisenberg for an RBI. The Tigers responded in their next at-bat, bringing the score to 1-1 in the fifth inning. The two teams remained deadlocked for almost six full innings.

Missouri ended the game when Jonah Schmidt hit a triple and scored on the next at-bat when teammate Eric Garcia singled to ride field.

Missouri’s Phil McCormick finished with the win after pitching 4.1 innings, striking out four batters.

OU’s Bobby Shore started the game for the Sooners, throwing 4.1 innings, allowing three hits while striking out four hitters. Jack Mayfield relieved him, throwing 4.1 innings as well. Mayfield allowed four hits and struck out two. Freshman Dillon Overton finished with the loss after throwing the final 2.0 innings, allowing three hits during his time on the mound.

The two teams will meet again Sunday at 1 p.m.
