Drillers Top San Antonio in Come-From-Behind Victory

TULSA, Oklahoma -- A two-out, walk off, three-run home run gave the Tulsa Drillers a 7-5 win over San Antonio Sunday to win the first of a three-game series against the Missions.

Trailing 5-3 in the bottom of the ninth with runners on first and third, leadoff hitter Tim Wheeler sent a ground ball to right field to bring Warren Schaeffer home from third ant put the tying run on third base. Hector Gomez went yard in the next at-bat – his first home run of the season –to win the game for the Drillers.

Stephen Dodson (1-0) came in for the eighth inning for the Drillers (3-1), with a three-run deficit and pitched two scoreless, hitless innings to allow for the comeback. Brad Branch (0-1) not only received his first loss of the season, but also blew his first save of the season, giving up four earned runs on three hits.

Tulsa (3-1) scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the second.

With runners on first and second, Warren Schaeffer hit a ground ball single to left field to bring Scott Beerer home from second and take a 1-0 lead.

San Antonio (1-3) came roaring back in the top of the sixth. With the bases loaded and one out, Vincent Belnome hit a sacrifice fly to left field to bring Jeff Decker home. In the next at-bat, Anthony Contreras doubled to left field to bring James Darnell and Cody Decker across the plate and take a 3-1 lead.

Sawyer Carrol homered in the next at-bat to make it a four-run advantage for the Missions.

Tulsa will continue the three-game series against San Antonio at 10:05 a.m. Monday, before closing out the home stand Thursday.
