IRVING, Texas – OSU first baseman Zach Johnson was named the Big 12 Conference’s Newcomer of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Johnson came up huge for the Cowboys in a Bedlam series win against Oklahoma this past weekend as OSU took two out of the three games.
In those three games, plus a non-conference game against Arkansas-Little Rock, Johnson went 7-for-17 (.412) and racked up five RBIs and five runs.
Johnson had two doubles in the three games against the Sooners and went 3-for-5 with four RBIs on Sunday while also scoring the winning run.
His award marks the fifth weekly Big 12 award for a Cowboy player this season.
Gabe Weidenaar and Chris Marlowe have earned Newcomer of the Week honors as well, while Brad Probst picked up a Pitcher of the Week and Davis Duren a Player of the Week award.
Oklahoma State will host Wichita State at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
