STILLWATER, Okla. – OSU forward Roger Franklin is transferring to North Texas to play basketball closer to home, North Texas announced on Monday.

Franklin, a 6-foot-5 forward from Duncanville, Texas, has signed to play for the Mean Green, according to the school.

Franklin’s father is ill and that has played a large part in Franklin’s decision to transfer.

“We wish Roger nothing but the best of luck,”said OSU head coach TravisFord. “I appreciate all the hard work he has put in with our program. But more importantly, I appreciate the person Roger was while at Oklahoma State.

Frankin made an appeal to the NCAA to waive the one-year transfer rule because of the circumstances under which he is moving schools.

Tuesday, Oklahoma State University announced that Franklin’s release has been granted.

He will have two years of eligibility remaining and has not yet used his redshirt season.

“We understand him wanting more playing time and a much larger role, and going to a program where he’s able to do that. We also understand him wanting to get closer to home," saidFord. He will always be a part of the Cowboy Basketball family.”

Franklin played in 56 games in his two seasons at Oklahoma State.

He averaged 2.6 points and 1.6 rebounds this past season, playing 10.5 minutes per game.
