GUTHRIE, Oklahoma -- Guthrie was one of many Oklahoma communities hit hard by Tuesday's tornadoes.

"It's not like a war zone at all. I've actually been there. But it's as close as you can get without getting shot at," Gary Dixon said.

Neighbors say a tornado tore through around 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. They say what was strange was they couldn't see much. And then they saw debris rotating in the sky.

"Very nervous," Beth Hanna said. "I was very insistent on having a storm shelter."

The Hanna's made it into the shelter, but just barely. And just as quickly, it was over.

"The first thing you see is sky," Johnny Hanna said.

The Rice's also lost their home.

"We're not very good as you can see. Health wise we're doing all right. But emotionally, mentally, it's a pretty tough loss," Rick Rice said.

They say their dream homes can be rebuilt, but their families are irreplaceable.

"As long as I have my family, I've got everything. And the Lord is watching over me," Loretta Rice said.

Thankfully, no one was hurt in the Cedar Valley neighborhood.

Johnny Hanna says he was reluctant to get a storm shelter. But both he and his wife credit the shelter with saving their lives.
