MIDWEST CITY, Oklahoma -- The Midwest City Outlaws returned home Wednesday night from Spokane, Washington after claiming the American Legion World Series title -- the first in the program’s history.

The win also marks the first for an Oklahoma team since Enid took the crown in 2005.

The Outlaws topped Eden Prairie 11-6 and 10-1 in a double header Tuesday night to win the double-elimination tournament. Midwest City lost in the second round to the Minnesotans before closing the tournament with four straight wins to claim the title.

Two weeks earlier, the Midwest City team went through the Oklahoma tournament unbeaten to advance to the World Series in Washington.

The Oklahoma squad took a hit before the tournament started with former Carl Albert star J.T. Realmutosigned a professional contract to play baseball for the Florida Marlins.
