EUFAULA, Oklahoma -- It’s one of the oldest rules of thumb in sports: If the other team can’t score, you’ll probably win. That was true in Tuesday night’s 8 Star Conference clashes between Eufaula and Henryetta, the Knights upset the 3A No. 13 Ironheads 53-52 in a game that went down to the last play, and the Lady Knights easily got a 59-28 win.

The 3A No. 8 Lady Knights used a suffocating man-to-man defense to smother Eufaula offensively, after getting the first 6 points, Henryetta led 17-6 at the end of the first quarter, and by halftime the lead was 33-11.

The third quarter was really something to see: Henryetta only scored 10 points, but they didn’t let Eufaula score a single point in the entire eight minute stretch. The game ended a 59-28 Lady Knights win, sophomore Megan Tabor led the scoring with 14 points, freshman Alissa Taylor 12, junior Ashton Peters matched her jersey number with 11, senior Heather Konsure 10, junior Bobbie McCullar four, junior Danielle Bear and sophomore Lauren Flanary had three each.

The Knights are now 5-5, the Lady Knights 7-3, the pair of wins formed a good tune-up for the Okmulgee County Tournament, which runs Monday through Saturday at Okmulgee’s gym. Other teams playing include Beggs, Dewar, Morris, Okmulgee, Preston, Schulter and Wilson, the games will be broadcast on KOKL 1240 am radio.

For Eufaula(boys 8-2, girls 3-7), they host Preston at home Friday, then the next week they play in the Ft. Gibson Tournament.
