TULSA, Oklahoma -- A major Tulsa art event launches Friday as "Oh! Tulsa" starts its run. The exhibit's opening is from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Living Arts Center on the corner of Brady and Detroit.

The opening will feature food, drink and a chance to meet and mingle with about two-thirds of the artists whose work is on display.

"Oh, Tulsa!" is the brainchild of Tulsa artist and actress Melanie Fry, who said the exhibit began when she had the idea of holding a small art show.

"I was like, 'hey, let's put on an art show,'" she said. "It started out being 10 of my friends, and before I knew what was happening it turned into about 100 artists."

All the featured artists are current or former Tulsa residents.

"This is one of the biggest art exhibits in Tulsa history with about 100 artists and 150 works," Fry said. "It's everything – jewelry, silk, paintings, sculpture. It's a wonderfully diverse show."

Fry's contribution to the show is a portrait of Cy Tuma, a Tulsa news anchor in the 1950s and 60s who was seen on KOTV and KTUL.

The exhibit runs through August 25. Opening night guests can also enjoy the chance to walk through the Brady Arts District for the Art Walk that is held on the first Friday of every month.
