TULSA, Oklahoma -- Tulsa's San Miguel Middle School reached a huge milestone. They broke ground Thursday on a new 8,000 square-foot building.

San Miguel provides a private school education to low income students in the Kendall-Whittier area.

School leaders say the new building will give them more room and improve safety for students and faculty.

"We have fast cars driving down the alley, we have gangs that claim this property as their own, we have vandalism," said Joe O'Conner, San Miguel Middle School.

The new $1.5 million dollar building was paid for almost entirely by donations.
