STILLWATER, Oklahoma – Wagoner won the first state championship in school history Friday with a 23-0 shutout win over Clinton at Boone Pickens Stadium.

Kevin Peterson led the way for Wagoner, rushing for 240 yards and two touchdowns. The Wagoner defense also forced three key turnovers, one of which came inside its own 10-yard line.

The Bulldogs started the scoring with a field goal in the first quarter, and Peterson scored the game's first touchdown with an 86-yard run in the second for a 9-0 lead.

That score held until the fourth quarter, when Peterson essentially put the game away with his second touchdown. Wagoner added one more touchdown late in the fourth quarter to finish the scoring.

The outcome gave Wagoner its first Gold Ball and prevented Clinton from winning its 16th. The Red Tornadoes last won a state title in 2007.
