PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania -- Former Tulsa head coach Todd Graham has stepped down as the University of Pittsburgh head coach to take over the same position for the Arizona State Sun Devils after just one year with the Panthers.

The head coach resigned via text message, sent to assistant athletic director Blair Philbrick, which was in turn forwarded to players.

"I have resigned my position at Pitt in the best interest of my family to pursue the head coaching position at Arizona State. Coaching there has always been a dream of ours and we have family there. The timing of the circumstances have prohibited from telling you this directly. I now am on my way to Tempe to continue those discussions. God Bless. Coach Graham."

In his one year at Pittsburgh, the Panthers finished 6-6 (4-3), good enough for fifth in the conference and a Compass Bowl berth. Graham took over for Dave Wannstedt, who stepped down in 2010 after an 8-5 season.

Graham will take over for Dennis Erickson, who was relieved of his duties at Arizona State after going 21-27 over the last four seasons.

Before Pittsburgh, Graham spent four years as the head coach for the Tulsa Golden Hurricane, leading TU to a 36-17 record – including an outright conference championship in 2007 and two ties in 2008 and 2010.

This marks his fourth different head coaching job since 2006.
