This year's Academy Awards nominees for best director include former Bartlesville resident Terrence Malick.

His movie "The Tree Of Life" is also nominated in the "Best Picture" category.

The movie won top honors at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival.

Malick made news in Oklahoma in 2010 when he shot a movie in northeast Oklahoma.

Malick, who lived in Bartlesville when he was younger, is known for directing the movies "The Thin Red Line," "The New World," "Badlands" and "Days Of Heaven."

The movie he shot in 2010, tentatively called "The Burial," is set to be released in the later half of 2012.
