Tulsa Public Schools Athletic Director Stephanie Spring Resigns
TULSA, Oklahoma - Tulsa Public Schools Athletic Director Dr. Stephanie Spring has resigned, according to the district.
The district announced the resignation in a brief statement Wednesday morning:
"On Friday, Jan. 20, TPS Athletic Director Dr. Stephanie Spring tendered her irrevocable resignation to Dr. Ballard, who immediately accepted it. Her last day of employment with the District will be February 7, 2012, which was the date originally set for her termination hearing."
Spring and assistant athletic directors Jon Wheeler and Trish Pruitt were suspended with pay effective November 15, 2011.
Pruitt has since returned to work.
Tulsa Public Schools would not give a specific reason why they were suspended but the three have been under investigation by Tulsa police.
News On 6 first reported in August that detectives were investigating whether they hacked into an employee's personal emails.
The investigation began when TPS fired Cheryl Murphy, an assistant to Spring. She appealed the firing and later learned her emails may have been illegally accessed.
The district is refusing to comment on the situation:
"Because this issue is a confidential personnel matter, no one with the District will have any further comments about Dr. Spring or any issues with regard to her resignation."
