The debate over hydraulic fracturing -or fracking- came to Tulsa Tuesday.
TU's law school hosted two geoscientists to educate attorneys on the many debates surrounding fracking and the future of the oil and gas industry.
Both men are experts and have given speeches around the world. Tuesday, they told Tulsans that fracking is absolutely necessary for domestic energy sustainability and for the U.S. economy.
"The American economy right now depends on fracking. And the reason for that of course is there is a direct correlation in America between jobs and energy expenditures. And that energy... somewhere between 25 and 35 to 40 percent of all the energy used in America comes from fracking," said Terry Engelder.
But both of those experts say fracking, like all things industrial, comes with its own set of issues.
Our Oklahoma Impact Team plans to look into many of those issues over the next year. Look for their first investigation later this month.
