Thanks to seven employees, the City of Tulsa is saving thousands of dollars.

It's all part of the Gainsharing program, which is a competition for city employees, where employee teams can bid against private contractors for specific services.

Tuesday's winning team saved the city $108,000 in maintenance and operation services since July.

As a bonus, each member of the winning team walked away with nearly $4,000.

"I could use the money in a lot of ways," maintenance mechanic Larry Barnett said. "We try to do what we can to save. That way knowing when this program was implemented to us, we're going to try to do everything we can so we could get the rewards of it."

Tulsa Mayor Dewey Bartlett hopes this incentive will spur other employees to create more cost-saving ideas.
