Cowgirls Seek WNIT Championship Saturday

The OSU women's team is playing in the first WNIT Championship in program history Saturday against James Madison.

The WNIT Championship is up for grabs Saturday in Stillwater as Oklahoma State faces James Madison for the 2012 title.

Both teams will be playing in the WNIT Championship for the first time in program history and they both enter the matchup on five-game winning streaks.

Saturday's game will be broadcast by CBS Sports Network and tipoff is set for 2 p.m. inside Gallagher-Iba Arena.

Oklahoma State's run this post season has been nothing short of impressive. Not only have the Cowgirls never trailed in a post season game this year, but they also have out rebounded each of their postseason opponents and outscored them in the paint in every of the WNIT—Not to mention OSU is shooting 39.7 percent on the season.

In the first round, OSU defeated Central Arkansas 72-51 followed by a 63-44 win over Wichita State. The round of 16 saw Oklahoma State down Missouri State 70-57 before they edged Colorado 78-70 in the quarterfinals and most recently a 73-57 win over San Diego in the semifinals.

The Cowgirls are looking for their 18th home victory of the season and a win would give OSU its fifth-highest win total in school history.

Sophomore Tiffany Bias is two assists away from setting a new single-season record. Former standout Andrea Riley is the current leader with 220 assists, a record she set as a senior.

In the last game against San Diego, reigning Big 12 Freshman of the Year Liz Donohoe logged her fourth straight double-double and seventh of the season while head coach Jim Littell won his 20th game becoming the first OSU coach to reach that mark in their first year.

The Cowgirls and Dukes have never faced each other on the hardwood.

James Madison, a member of the Colonial Athletic Association, sits at 29-7 on the season thus far-- setting a school record for season victories with its latest win—a 74-71final over Syracuse in the semifinals.

Head Coach Kenny Brooks and the Dukes defeated Davidson 64-49 in the round of 64 before taking down Wake Forest 84-76 in the second round. Then in the round of 16, James Madison trampled South Florida 72-45 followed by a 68-59 win over Virginia in the quarterfinals.

JMU is 25-2 when holding opponents under 40 percent shooting, compared to a record of 4-5 when the Dukes' opponents shoot 40 percent or better.

In addition the Dukes ranked fifth in NCAA in field-goal percentage defense at 33.6 percent.

Tarik Hislop, a junior for James Madison averages a team high 14.8 points per game while Kirby Burkholder and Lauren Whitehurst both average a near double-double each contest.

Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. in Stillwater.
