Tulsa Middle School Students Operate Hillcrest's Surgical Robot

A hands-on lesson took place at Hilllcrest Medical Center on Monday.

Seventh graders from San Migel Middle School were invited to the hospital today, for their chance to operate a new surgical robot.

The robot is the new tool surgeons are using to perform hysterectomies, gall bladder operations and other procedures.

"The greatest advantage for this type of procedure is there is less pain, there is less recovery time, there is less hospital time," Hillcrest's Dr. Darla Lofgren said.

The students also got to name the robot, and the winning suggestion was Bot-Berto.
