Oklahoma pitcher Steven Okert has been named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week becoming OU's fourth Sooner given that honor this season.
The junior from Rowlett, Texas became the first Big 12 pitcher to defeat Baylor in 2012 after pitching 1.1 scoreless innings in OU's 1-0 win to open the series Saturday.
In game two of the doubleheader, Okert dealt 1.2 scoreless innings for his third save of the year earning him one year and one save in the same day.
Okert posted a 0.00 ERA in three innings against the No. 2 Bears with one hit, no walks and three strikeouts. In addition he threw 34 pitches in the two outings and 26 were strikes.
Okert joined the Sooners this season after transferring in from Grayson County Community College where he was an Honorable Mention All-American.
He joins Kansas State's Wade Hinkle who was named the Player of the Week and Texas A&M's Ross Stripling who was named the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week.
OU has won the Newcomer of the Week award on six occasions since it was established in 2011 with five of those being pitchers.
The Sooners host TCU at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday before their final regular-season series against Samford that starts Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in Norman.
