Four local charities have combined forces to launch a campaign dedicated to helping fight hunger here in Tulsa.
Live Local, Give Local –- comprised of the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma, Emergency Infant Services, Iron Gate and Lawyers Against Hunger. -- was at the Cherry Street Farmers Market Saturday morning, spreading awareness about what it calls a "dire" situation in Oklahoma.
"Everybody wants to help, they're just not always aware that there's a need," said Eileen Bradshaw of the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma. "This was a good way for us to get out with people who were interested in food, and share the message that there is hunger in our midst… It takes all of us to make a difference."
The food bank estimates that nearly one in six Oklahomans are unsure from where their next meal will come.
