Hundreds turn out for a fundraiser basketball tournament in Tulsa, Sunday, to help families struggling with sickle cell disease, a disease that makes it harder for blood to travel though the body.

This is the organizers' first basketball tournament to raise money, though they're hoping to make it an annual event.

More than two dozen AAU teams came from all over the state to compete. But, the real winners are the families who'll benefit from the money raised. Organizers say it's not just about money though.

"It's important that those who have sickle cell trait that play sports, know that they have it, And, we want to make sure that people are educated," said event organizer, Velvet Brown-Watts.
