Tulsa firefighters responded to a house fire call Friday and discovered the body of a woman in a bedroom of the home.

Shortly before 4 p.m. Tulsa Fire Department had to kick in the door at a house on the 5000 block of East Third Street. Investigators say someone called 911 when they spotted smoke coming from an attic vent.

"It appeared that the seed of the fire was in the bedroom itself," said Captain Nate Morgans, Tulsa Fire Department.

In that bedroom, firefighters found a dead woman.

The flames were already out by the time crews got to the house, but there was some smoke

"It's never fun to do this at all. It's a horrible thing to see. We just have to treat it and investigate it properly and make sure we're doing the right thing," Morgans said.

Neighbors say the woman lived alone and that someone leaving a near-by house smelled smoke early this morning around 9 a.m.

"I saw four fire trucks going down the street and several cop cars. My neighbor was thinking, what's going on down there, is there a fire?" said neighbor James Person.

Two arson investigators were on the scene. Firefighters say they're taking samples and doing things that they would normally do to investigate a fatal fire.

Authorities are not releasing any information on the dead woman, but neighbors tell us she recently retired from her job.
