Tulsa Educator, Administrator Honored At White House

A Tulsa educator and administrator has been recognized for her dedication to childhood education.

Caren Calhoun was one of 11 Head Start employees from across the country who were honored at the White House Monday.

Calhoun is the executive director of Tulsa Educare, an early childhood education center for low-income children and their families. She has worked to develop two-generation programs to help families break the cycle of poverty.

"The Educare Learning Network is delighted that Caren Calhoun is being recognized for her tireless leadership to expand quality early learning opportunities for children in her community and state," said Portia Kennel, executive director of the national Educare network.

"Because of her efforts, countless children have a better chance for success in school and in life."
