Oklahoma City Avoids Losing Streak Against Nashville

The RedHawks outlasted the Sounds in a shootout to end their road trip.

The Oklahoma City RedHawks avoided losing their third-consecutive game Friday, knocking off the Nashville Sounds 10-7 to close out the long road trip in dramatic fashion.

The RedHawks started the fireworks early, as Fernando Martinez was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to take a 1-0 advantage. Landon Powell singled in the next at-bat, bringing Brad Snyder and Scott Moore home and push the lead to three runs. Jordan Kreke capped off the scoring with a fly ball single to center field to bring Martinez home and take a 4-0 lead.

Nashville Responded in the next half-inning, thanks to a Logan Schafer leadoff homer and an RBI single from Andy Gonzalez to cut the lead in half. The Sounds slowly took the lead in the next four innings, via a pair of RBI singles from Jeff Bianchiand Corey Patterson, capped by yet another solo shot from Schafer to take a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the fifth.

However, Oklahoma City responded in the top of the sixth, thanks to a sacrifice fly from Brad Snyder to score Angel Sanchez and a two-run home run from Brett Wallace to retake the lead 6-5. Brandon Barnes extended the lead an inning later thanks to a two-run single, putting OKC in front 8-5.

The Sounds tried to answer in the bottom of the seventh, scoring two to cut the lead to one run, but Wallace knocked a solo shot in the eighth, pushing the lead back to two runs.

Brett Oberholtzer (1-1) picked up a win in the outing, giving up four earned runs on eight hits in his five innings of service. Victor Garate (2-5) blew the save and picked up a loss, giving up six earned runs on six hits in just two innings.

Oklahoma City returns home for a quick four-game stint, opening up a series against Omaha at 7:05 p.m. Saturday.
