Sapulpa firefighters are putting out hotspots Thursday evening after a grass fire near 121st Street South and U.S. Highway 75.

The black smoke from the fire in a sludge pit could be seen for quite a distance.

Flying embers started other fires around it, including one that burned right up to an oil battery.

Firefighters were able to stop the blaze before homes were lost.

"They're doing an amazing job," Carolyn Minnich said. "I love them. I wish I could give them all hugs, I would."

There's no word yet on what caused the fire.
