A Tulsa church turned its Sunday morning service into an act of service.

Instead of a regular worship inside, members went outside to directly serve the community.

Whether it's picking up a paint brush or singing a song, those at Redeemer Covenant Church are serving God in a different way.

"We have often talked in our church that the church is not within the walls of the church, but the church is the body of Christ, so we are trying to go out in the community and show them the love of Christ," Lana Roskamp said.

Nearly 400 volunteers are around Tulsa are engaging in different acts of kindness.

One group is packing grocery sacks to give to people at a nearby apartment complex.

A note of prayer is left on each bag.

"Together we can do so much and I think what we're realizing today is when we all come together, we can do great things," Gretchen Guillette said.

Over at Hunter Park, a youth group is busy painting the docks and beautifying the area.

"It's just a really good opportunity for us to work together as a team and just really shine for God and show his glory around the city of Tulsa and it's a really cool opportunity," Jennifer Jones said.

At Clarehouse Hospice, church members are busy both outside and inside the building.

Each patient's room door is open so they can hear the angelic sounds that Redeemer members are signing.

Another group is also doing a little yard work, trimming bushes, watering plants and ultimately serving their leader, they said.

"When we all get together and put all of our hands together, we can get a lot of things accomplished and it's just great to be able to serve and it's always an honor to be used in the kingdom of God," Lana Roskamp said.

This is the first time the church changed its Sunday worship service into a community service project.

They were at ten different locations across the city.
