Former University of Oklahoma and Dallas Cowboys head coach Barry Switzer has doubled the reward for information leading to the arrest of the person or persons responsible in the death of a Rogers County dog.

With Switzer's $5,000 pledge, the reward totals $10,000.

Eric and Melony Patton found their dog Jetta Saturday morning after they said someone tied her rear legs with metal baling wire and dragged her to death behind a vehicle.

Annette Tucker of Wild Heart Animal Ranch wildlife rehabilitation facility has lead the campaign to find the dog's killer. She spoke to Switzer just before 1 p.m. Sunday.

"He and his wife are outraged," Tucker said. "He wants to send the same message that we do to other people who commit a crime like this which is 'Don't do it. We'll come for you.'"

The black lab was weaning nine pups when she was killed. The Pattons first got her as a birthday gift for their daughter.

Tucker said she has been humbled by the response to Jetta's death and the search for information. The reward money donated by Switzer and other animal lovers may do more than "bring a monster to justice," she said.

"It does more than just catch the killer of this dog, it prevents the death of others," she said. "The public is just not going to tolerate this."

Jetta's owner Melony Patton wonders what else someone capable of such cruelty could do.

"If they're going to do this to a dog, what are they going to do to a child or even an adult?" she asked.

If you have information about the person or persons who are related to this case, call Rogers County Sheriff's Office at 918-341-3620 or 911.
