A 15-year-old Jenks student, missing since last Tuesday, contacted his family Monday night from over 1,000 miles away.

A family friend told News On 6 that Eli Carr called his mother Monday night from a 7-Eleven store in Salt Lake City, Utah.

He left his father's house early last Tuesday morning and hadn't been heard from since. He had left a note saying he needed to get away to clear his head for a few days.

He ran away a week after three Jenks students died, one in a shooting at a south Tulsa Quik Trip, one from a heart condition, and one - a friend of Eli's - took his own life. His family said they worried about his state of mind, following those tragedies.

Monday night, Carr told his mother he was safe, but out of money and he wanted to come home. A family friend said he told his mother he was going to sleep in his car in a Wal-Mart parking lot and wait for her to come get him.

The family contacted Salt Lake City authorities. His mother and father are both on their way to pick him up.
