Haskell High School and Mary White Elementary School were placed on lockdown Wednesday morning for about an hour as city police worked to resolve a domestic situation nearby.

A Haskell Police Department spokesperson said a woman came to the police station and said her boyfriend was threatening her.

Police went to a residence and were able to apprehend a man and take him into custody about 9:45 a.m., the spokesperson said.

According to police, there was no standoff, no gun was found and there were no shots fired by officers or the man in the residence.

Erin Jones, Haskell High School principal, said the schools were on "general security" lockdown after being advised by police to take measures for the safety of the kids. The exterior doors were locked so no person could enter or exit the building.

Jones offered assurance to concerned parents, saying both campuses carried on the education process like they would any other day, and the students' environment was not disturbed during the hour-long lockdown.

"The kids are safe; learning is happening," Jones said. "We just [were not] going in or out of the building."
