A Sapulpa police officer was injured in a collision following a pursuit in Sapulpa Wednesday afternoon.

Sapulpa Police told News On 6 the injured officer was hit by the door of his patrol car when the suspect struck it.

It all started when a Sapulpa police officer tried to pull a man in a pickup truck over for speeding. Police said, when the man saw the flashing lights, he took off. A sergeant on the scene told News On 6 police believe the truck the suspect was driving may have been stolen.

Two officers chased the suspect, going at speeds up to 90 mph through a residential area, when the suspect crashed through a gate into a private gravel road at a dead end on East Cobb Avenue, near North Moccasin Street.

Police said the two officers followed the suspect down the gravel road, then the suspect turned around and headed back toward them.

"While the suspect was trying to get away, he rammed his car into the police officer's car, as the officer was exiting the vehicle and his head was struck by the door," said Master Patrolman David Womeldorff

The officer who was hurt told News On 6 he had drawn his weapon and was aiming it at the suspect when he realized the man wasn't going to stop. As he attempted to get back into his patrol car the suspect's truck hit the door of his car.

The suspect then hit the other Sapulpa patrol car head-on, then got out of the truck and ran away.

The second officer went after the suspect in his car and after a short pursuit arrested the suspect  at Liberty Park in Sapulpa.

Nearby Liberty Elementary School was placed on lock down, just before school let out, until the suspect was placed in custody.

The whole chase lasted about 20 minutes.

Both police officers were taken to the hospital. No word yet on their respective conditions, though police said one was transported in serious condition.

Police have not released the names of the officers or the suspect involved.
