We should get more details in the day ahead about impending layoffs at American Airlines.

Mechanics and fleet service workers at the Tulsa, base who were affected by the first round of layoffs, have until ten o'clock Friday morning to accept or decline the airline's "early out" offer.

After entering bankruptcy a year ago, the company said it would eliminate 4,600 jobs among mechanics and clerks, but last month it reduced that number to as few as 290, because so many had accepted buy-outs.

Once the window closes Friday, we should get a clearer picture of just how many layoffs will happen.
