Hundreds of people had an early Christmas dinner Monday at the Salvation Army's Center of Hope.

The dinner was free for anyone who wanted to partake.

The center said more people turn out when the temperature starts to fall.

They were planning for between 500 and 800 people to show up for the lunch.

"We serve a lot more people during Christmas Eve, because people know they're going to get a really good meal," said volunteer coordinator Jenny McElyea. "They're going to get the traditional meal that they may have got at home formally. We're serving turkey and ham today with the traditional sides, mashed potatoes, stuffing, all the good stuff, and every kind of pie you can imagine."

It took about 50 volunteers to serve the guests their lunch in restaurant style.
