Police Arrest OKC Man For Threatening Violence After Cat's Death

Oklahoma City police arrested a 68-year-old man accused of threatening to shoot a veterinarian after his cat died at an animal clinic.

Police say Fred Meyer and his wife took their cat to Neel Veterinary Hospital at N.W. 27th Street and MacArthur for surgery. The doctor later told Meyer's wife the cat had escaped and run loose in the clinic. After the staff captured the cat, it died for unknown reasons.

According to the police report, Meyer's wife called him to tell him of their pet's death, and he became extremely upset. The veterinarian said he threatened her over the phone, saying "I'm gonna take an AK-47 up there and shoot them." The doctor then called police.

Meyer then reportedly drove to the clinic. His wife said while he was in the parking lot he said he was going to "blow away the doors." His wife convinced him to leave before police arrived. The woman did tell police that her husband owns several guns.

Police went to Meyer's home and arrested him. He was booked into the Oklahoma County jail for threatening an act of violence. He was also banned from the veterinary clinic.
