Ivory Latta Leaving Shock

Ivory Latta signed with the Washington Mystics on Friday after spending the past three seasons with the Shock.

The Tulsa Shock confirmed on Friday via Twitter that point guard Ivory Latta has decided not to stay with the organization, instead signing with the Washington Mystics as a free agent.

Latta averaged 14.3 points and three assists per game for the Shock last season. She converted 39 percent from 3-point range and ranked fifth in the league in 3's made.

Latta has spent the past three seasons in Tulsa but this past season was easily her best with the franchise. The North Carolina product was originally selected 11th overall in the 2007 WNBA Draft by the Detroit Shock.

She was an All-American at UNC after guiding the Tar Heels to back-to-back Final Four appearances.

The Shock released this statement on Twitter:

"Ivory has made the decision not to resign with us. She wants to be closer to home and we respect that decision. We did everything we could to resign her and wish her nothing but the best."

For the team moving forward, point guard was seen as a position of strength because of the depth. Latta's departure raises the importance to retain Temeka Johnson, who led the team with 4.7 assists per game while averaging 12.2 points last season.
