Most of Oklahoma remains in an extreme drought but Wednesday's snow could help.

The Oklahoma Climatological Survey shows January was the first month since April 2012 where the state finished with above normal precipitation.

The U.S. Drought Monitor shows most of the state in the extreme drought category with only an area in eastern Oklahoma from Kansas to Texas in the severe category.

With this winter weather some areas have the potential to see their wettest day in months.

Weather scientists say about 12 inches of snow is the equivalent of about one inch of rainfall.
