Jason Christie of Park Hill says he plans to rely on his instincts - not just his knowledge of Grand Lake - as he goes into day three of the Bassmaster Classic.

Park Hill's Jason Christie had to miss his daughter's performance in the state basketball tournament Saturday, and she missed out on Day 2 of the Bassmaster Classic.

At the end of Saturday's festivities, Christie was Oklahoma's leading finisher in fifth place with 31 pounds, 5 ounces. The local favorite has a lot of experience fishing on Grand Lake but said that can be a disadvantage if he doesn't stay flexible and rely on his instincts.

The past two days he has spent two-thirds of his time on "stuff I haven't caught fish on," he said.

"These places deserve respect," he said Saturday. "They're the kind of places you can catch 25 pounds, but it's not working out. It's the water color. I should have known that in practice and developed another plan."

On Sunday, Christie said he'll change is his strategy if the wind is blowing.

"I'll turn my GPS off, burn 45 gallons of gas and go fishing," he said.

Christie isn't the only member of Oklahoma's Own to make the cut for Day 3. Edwin Evers of Talala is 20th, and Wagoner's Tommy Biffle is 25th.

Sunday's weigh-in at the BOK Center in downtown Tulsa will determine who takes home the $500,000 prize and the title as the best angler in the country.
