Tulsa Police arrested a teenager for child abuse by injury after a pediatrician found two broken bones in a 3-month-old infant.

Jessica Lynn Newell, 18, is in the Tulsa County Jail on a $50,000 bond.

The baby girl was in the care of her mother Wednesday when the injury was discovered, according to an arrest report. The baby cried out loudly while her diaper was being changed and continued to cry, according to the report.

When the baby was taken to St. Francis Hospital, a pediatrician discovered a spiral fracture of the left femur and a fracture of the left clavicle. The physician said "the force used to cause this type of injury is excessive and represents child abuse," the arresting officer said.

Newell admitted to "possibly picking up the child's leg too hard which may have caused the injury but denied any intent or anger," the report states.
